Generic Name : Homatropine hydrobromide

Pronunciation : ho-MAT-trow-peen hi-dro-BRO-mide

Trade Name(s): 
International- Isopto Homatropine.


Why it is prescribed (Indications) : 
This medication is an anticholinergic agent, prescribed for treating certain eye conditions such as iritis and iridocyclitis.




When it is not to be taken (Contraindications): 


Contraindicated in patients with narrow-angle glaucoma, and hypersensitivity.

Category C : Animal reproduction studies have shown an adverse effect on the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in humans, but potential benefits may warrant use of the drug in pregnant women despite potential risks.


When it is to be taken : 
Instill 1 drop of a 2% solution in the eye(s) immediately before the procedure; may repeat at 10-minute intervals as necessary.

How it should be taken : 
It comes as eye drops to instill into the affected eyes as directed by your physician.




Special Instruction : 
* Caution should be exercised in patients with history of cornea problems, Down syndrome, nerve damage, prostate enlargement, difficulty in urinating, any allergy, who are taking other medications, elderly, children, during pregnancy and breastfeeding.





* It may cause blurred vision, do not drive a car or operate machinery while taking this medication.

Side Effects : 
Eye -

Blurred vision, itching, burning, stinging and irritation at the application site.

Other Precautions : 
* It may cause harm if it is swallowed.

Storage Conditions : 
Store it in refrigerator and protect from strong light. Do not freeze.
