Valethamate

Generic Name : Valethamate

Pronunciation : vă-leth′ă-māt brō′mīd

Trade Name(s): 
India- Epidosin, Osdil, Valemide –8, Valthamet Bromide, Valosin, Valamate, Epidosin (1 ml).
International- Colwen, Epidosin.


Why it is prescribed (Indications) : 
This medication is an antispasmodic agent; prescribed for dysmenorrhea, GI spasm, post-operation pain, tenesmus (incomplete defecation), urinary tract and bile stone colic.




When it is not to be taken (Contraindications): 


Increased eye pressure, benign prostatic hyperplasia, intestinal obstruction, ulcer, and hypersensitivity.



When it is to be taken : 
Adult- PO- Per tab contains valethamate bromide 10 mg and paracetamol 325 mg: 1 tab 3 times/day.


IV/IM- 8-16 mg/day.



How it should be taken : 
It comes as a tablet to take by mouth, with or without food.


It also comes as a solution for injection to be administered by a healthcare provider into the veon or muscle.




Special Instruction : 
* Caution should be exercised in patients with history of severe liver or kidney disease, any allergy, during pregnancy and breastfeeding.



* It may cause blurred vision, do not drive a car or operate machinery while taking this medication.

Side Effects : 
Dry mouth, blurred vision, difficulty in swallowing and talking, constipation, urinary retention, dilatation of pupil, and abnormal heart rhythm.

Other Precautions : 
* Avoid excess dosage.

Storage Conditions : 
Store it at room temperature.
