Why it is prescribed (Indications) :
This medication is a muscle relaxant, prescribed for relaxing muscles during surgery and mechanical ventilation (assisted breathing).
When it is not to be taken (Contraindications):
Category C : Animal reproduction studies have shown an adverse effect on the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in humans, but potential benefits may warrant use of the drug in pregnant women despite potential risks.
When it is to be taken :
Adult: IV- Facilitate endotracheal intubation; Muscle relaxant in general anesthesia- Initial: 80-100 mcg/kg as inj. Maintenance: 20-30 mcg/kg, adjust according to response.
Alternatively, as continuous infusion at 0.8-1.4 mcg/kg/min after initial IV dose of 40-100 mcg/kg.
How it should be taken :
It comes as a solution for injection to be administered by a healthcare provider into the vein.
Special Instruction :
* Caution should be exercised in patients with history of asthma, urination problem, poor blood circulation, enlarged prostate, heart, liver or kidney disease, lung disease, muscle weakness, mental or mood changes, suicidal thoughts, head injury, epilepsy, any allergy, who are taking other medication, elderly, during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
* It may cause blood circulation problem; monitor patient’s heart condition regularly.
* Patients may develop with neuroleptic malignant syndrome (NMS) with the following symptoms: body heat, rigid muscles, mental disorder, fast or irregular heartbeat and sweating; if it is so consult with your doctor.
Side Effects :
Severe allergic reactions, dizziness, muscle weakness, fever and fast/slow heart rate.
Other Precautions :
* Do not use it in newborns.

Normally handled and stored by healthcare providers.
