Why it is prescribed (Indications) :
This medication an antidepressant, prescribed for depression.
When it is not to be taken (Contraindications):
Category B : Animal reproduction studies have failed to demonstrate a risk to the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women OR Animal studies have shown an adverse effect, but adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women have failed to demonstrate a risk to the fetus in any trimester.
When it is to be taken :
Adult: PO- The recommended dose is 4 mg twice daily, then up to 10 mg/day after 3-4 weeks if needed. Max: 12 mg/day.
How it should be taken :
It comes as a tablet to take by mouth, with or without food.
Special Instruction :
* Caution should be exercised in patients with history of kidney and liver impairment, prostate enlargement, heart disease, epilepsy, bipolar disorders, urinary retention, increased eye pressure, elderly, during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
* It may cause dizziness or drowsiness, do not drive a car or operate machinery while taking this medication.
* Monitor for signs of clinical worsening e.g. Suicidal tendency especially during the initial phase of the treatment.
Side Effects :
Central Nervous System-
Sleeplessness, dizziness and tingling.
Gastrointestinal-
Dry mouth and constipation.
Genitourinary-
Urinary hesitancy, painful urination and impotence.
Miscellaneous-
Increased sweating, low blood pressure and fast heart rate.
Other Precautions :
*Avoid excess dosage.
Storage Conditions :
Store it at room temperature.
