Lacidipine

Generic Name : Lacidipine

Why it is prescribed (Indications) : This medication is a calcium channel blocker, prescribed for hypertension.



When it is not to be taken (Contraindications): 

Contraindicated in patients with heart attack and shock due to heart failure.

Category C : Animal reproduction studies have shown an adverse effect on the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in humans, but potential benefits may warrant use of the drug in pregnant women despite potential risks.


When it is to be taken : Adult: Oral- Initial- 2 mg once daily, up to 4-6 mg/day if needed.
How it should be taken : It comes as a tablet to take by mouth with or without food.



Special Instruction : 
* Caution should be exercised in patients with history of heart, liver and kidney disease, blood disorder, allergic reactions, during pregnancy and breastfeeding.


* Do not drink grapefruit juice while taking this medication.

Side Effects : 
Central Nervous System-

Headache, dizziness, weakness and mood disturbances.
Heart-


Flushing, palpitations and chest pain.
Miscellaneous-


Rash, nausea, urinary frequency and muscle cramps.

Other Precautions : 
* Avoid excess dosage.

Storage Conditions : 
Oral: Store it at controlled room temperature (30°C).
