Why it is prescribed (Indications) : This medication is a beta-blocker, prescribed for high blood pressure, including high blood pressure during pregnancy.
When it is not to be taken (Contraindications):
Category C : Animal reproduction studies have shown an adverse effect on the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in humans, but potential benefits may warrant use of the drug in pregnant women despite potential risks.
When it is to be taken : PO- Adult- The starting oral dose is 100 mg twice daily.
IV- Emergency treatment of HTN- 50 mg, repeat at 5-min intervals if needed, Max: 200 mg.
How it should be taken : It comes as a tablet to take by mouth, with food.
It also comes as a solution for injection, to be administered by a healthcare provider into the vein.
Special Instruction :
* Caution should be exercised in patients with history of heart, kidney or liver disease; asthma, severe allergic reactions, diabetes, cancer, who are taking other medications, during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
* It may cause dizziness or drowsiness do not drive a car or operate machinery while taking this medication.
* Avoid alcohol consumption.
* It may affect blood sugar level; monitor sugar level regularly.

Fatigue, weakness and headache.
Gastrointestinal -
Nausea, vomiting, indigestion, abdominal pain, diarrhea and taste disturbances.
Central nervous system -
Dizziness, tingling and drowsiness.

Nose stuffiness, ejaculation failure, impotence and increased sweating.
Heart -
Slow heart beat and low blood pressure.
Respiratory -
Difficulty in breathing.
