Allantoin

Generic Name : Allantoin

Pronunciation : al-lan- to-in

Trade Name(s): 
India- Masse Cream.
International- Blistex.


Why it is prescribed (Indications) : 
This medication is a topical agent, prescribed for psoriasis, and other skin diseases.





When it is not to be taken (Contraindications): 


Contraindicated in patients with mastitis or breast abscess, and hypersensitivity.

Category C : Animal reproduction studies have shown an adverse effect on the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in humans, but potential benefits may warrant use of the drug in pregnant women despite potential risks.


When it is to be taken : 
Topical- 0.5%- Apply a thin layer over the affected area, three times per day.


How it should be taken : 
It comes as a cream to apply topically as directed by your physician.




Special Instruction : 
* Caution should be exercised in patients with history of open wounds, any allergy, during pregnancy and breastfeeding.


* Patient may experience excessive tenderness or irritation; if it is so stop the medication.


Side Effects : 
Local -

Sensitivity to light, skin irritation and burning sensation.

Other Precautions : 
* For external use only; avoid contact with eyes and mouth.


Storage Conditions : 
Store it at room temperature (25°C). Protect from excess light.
