Why it is prescribed (Indications) :
This medication is an anthelminthic and immunomodulator, prescribed for cancer treatment and also used for roundworm infection. It interferes with the growth of cancer cells and slows their growth and spread in the body. It is used in the treatment of colon cancer.
When it is not to be taken (Contraindications):
Category C : Animal reproduction studies have shown an adverse effect on the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in humans, but potential benefits may warrant use of the drug in pregnant women despite potential risks.
When it is to be taken :
The recommended dose is 150mg/day, in 3 equally divided doses, by mouth for 3 days. Maintenance- three-day course every two weeks for a year.
How it should be taken :
This medication is available in the form of tablet to take by mouth once a day, with food and glass of water.
Special Instruction :
*It may lead to liver damage, may cause skin, nose and vaginal dryness, may affect other organs of the body, including the kidneys, blood vessels, lungs, liver, pancreas, and brain(Sjogren’s syndrome).
Side Effects :
Central Nervous System-
Memory loss, loss of consciousness, fatigue, tingling, seizures and speech disturbances.
Miscellaneous-
Muscle weakness, difficulty in breathing, hives, swelling of lips, tongue, face, fever and chills.
Other Precautions :
*Avoid changing dosage without consulting with healthcare providers.
Storage Conditions :
Store below 25°C (77°F).
