Generic Name : Emtricitabine/Rilpivirine/Tenofovir Disoproxil

Trade Name(s): 
International- Complera.


Why it is prescribed (Indications) : 
This medication contains three antiviral agents, prescribed for HIV infection.




When it is not to be taken (Contraindications): 


It should not be co-administered with anticonvulsants, antimycobacterials, proton pump inhibitors, glucocorticoid systemic dexamethasone, St. John's wort.

Category B : Animal reproduction studies have failed to demonstrate a risk to the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women OR Animal studies have shown an adverse effect, but adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women have failed to demonstrate a risk to the fetus in any trimester.


When it is to be taken : 
Adults- The recommended dose is one tablet (200mg/27.5mg/300mg) taken orally once daily with a meal.

How it should be taken : 
It comes as a tablet to take by mouth, with food.




Special Instruction : 
* Caution should be exercised in patients with history of kidney disease, low bone mineral density, QT prolongation, hepatitis B, mental illness, abnormal liver function, who are taking other medications, any allergy, during pregnancy and breastfeeding.


* It may cause dizziness, do not drive a car or operate machinery while taking this medication.



* Monitor liver function, kidney function, and bone mineral density regularly while taking this medication.



* It does not stop the spread of HIV to others; avoid sexual contact with others.


* It should not be used in children less than 18 years.

Side Effects : 
Most Common -
Nausea, headache, dizziness, depression, sleeplessness, abnormal dreams and rash.
Miscellaneous -
Vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal discomfort, abdominal pain, fatigue, gallstone, decreased appetite, drowsiness, sleep disorders and anxiety.

Other Precautions : 
* Avoid excess dosage.

Storage Conditions : 
Store it at controlled room temperature (25°C).
