Econazole

Generic Name : Econazole

Pronunciation : e kone' a zole

Trade Name(s): 
India- Ecanol Vaginal Tab, Ecanol, Ecoderm.
International- Ecoderm, Spectazole.


Why it is prescribed (Indications) : 
This medication is an antifungal agent; prescribed for vaginal thrush, skin infections, athlete's foot and jock itch.




When it is not to be taken (Contraindications): 


Hypersensitivity.

Category C : Animal reproduction studies have shown an adverse effect on the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in humans, but potential benefits may warrant use of the drug in pregnant women despite potential risks.


When it is to be taken : 
Topical- 1% cream should be applied over the affected areas once daily.


PO- The recommended dose is 150mg/day.


How it should be taken : 
It comes as a cream to apply topically into the affected area.

It also comes as a tablet to take by mouth with or without food.




Special Instruction : 
* Caution needed for pregnant and breastfeeding women.

Side Effects : 
Local -

Itching, burning, irritation, stinging, redness and rash.


Other Precautions : 
* Avoid excess dosage.


Storage Conditions : 
Store it at room temperature, keep away from excess heat.
