Why it is prescribed (Indications) : This medication is an oxazolidinone antibiotic, prescribed for certain types of bacterial infections. This medication fights against the bacteria present in the body.
When it is not to be taken (Contraindications):
Category C : Animal reproduction studies have shown an adverse effect on the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in humans, but potential benefits may warrant use of the drug in pregnant women despite potential risks.
When it is to be taken : Oral/IV- The recommended dose is 600mg twice daily.
How it should be taken : It comes as a tablet and syrup to take by mouth, with or without food.
It comes as a solution for injection to be administered by a healthcare provider into the vein.
Special Instruction :
* Caution should be exercised in patients with history of high blood pressure, overactive thyroid, kidney disease, eye defect, low blood cell counts, carcinoid syndrome, any allergy, who are taking other medications, children, during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
* It may cause dizziness, do not drive a car or operate machinery while taking this medication.
* Avoid alcohol consumption.
* Avoid long-term use of this medication; otherwise it may cause secondary infection.
* It may decrease platelet counts; avoid bruising or injury.
* Monitor complete blood counts regularly while taking this medication.
Side Effects :
Most Common -
Diarrhea, headache, nausea and vomiting.
Blood -
Anemia and eosinophilia.
Miscellaneous -
Rash, fever, vaginal infection, itching, cough, loose stool and abdominal pain.
Other Precautions :
* Avoid excess dosage.
Storage Conditions :
Oral -
Store it at controlled room temperature (15° to 30°C). Discard any unused reconstituted suspension after 21 days.
Injection -
Store it at controlled room temperature (15° to 30°C). Protect from freezing and excess light.
