Entecavir

Generic Name : Entecavir

Pronunciation : Enti-CA-vir

Trade Name(s): 
India- Baraclude, Entehep.
International- Baraclude.


Why it is prescribed (Indications) : 
This medication is an oral antiviral agent, prescribed for hepatitis B.




When it is not to be taken (Contraindications): 


Contraindicated in patients with HIV infection and hypersensitivity.

Category C : Animal reproduction studies have shown an adverse effect on the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in humans, but potential benefits may warrant use of the drug in pregnant women despite potential risks.


When it is to be taken : 
Adult- PO- The recommended dose is 0.5 mg to 1mg once daily.



How it should be taken : 
It comes as a tablet and liquid to take by mouth, on an empty stomach.




Special Instruction : 
* Caution should be exercised in patients with history of HIV infection, kidney , liver problems, obesity, any allergy, who are taking other medications, elderly, children, during pregnancy and breastfeeding.



* It may cause dizziness, do not drive a car or operate machinery while taking this medication.



* During sexual intercourse life partner may develop with this infection, to avoid this problem consult with your doctor.


Side Effects : 
Headache, dizziness, heartburn, drowsiness and sleep disturbances.


Other Precautions : 
* Avoid excess dosage and abrupt withdrawal.

Storage Conditions : 
Store it at room temperature, and in an airtight container. Keep away from children.
