Why it is prescribed (Indications) :
This medication is a calcium channel blocker, prescribed for hypertension.
When it is not to be taken (Contraindications):
Category C : Animal reproduction studies have shown an adverse effect on the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in humans, but potential benefits may warrant use of the drug in pregnant women despite potential risks.
When it is to be taken :
Adult: PO- 10 mg once daily, increase to 20 mg daily after 2 weeks if needed.
How it should be taken :
It comes as a tablet to take by mouth on an empty stomach.
Special Instruction :
* Caution should be exercised in patients with history of heart, liver and kidney diseases.
Side Effects :
Heart-
Flushing, fast heart rate, palpitation and low blood pressure.
Central Nervous System-
Headache, dizziness, weakness and drowsiness.
Miscellaneous-
Rash, diarrhea, increased urination and muscle pain.
Other Precautions :
*Take full course of treatment.
