Roxatidine

Generic Name : Roxatidine

Trade Name(s): 
India- Rotane SR, Zorpex SR.
International- Zorprex.


Why it is prescribed (Indications) : 
This medication is a special H2-receptor antagonist, prescribed for reflux esophagitis, benign gastric ulcer, duodenal ulcer and prophylaxis of recurrent ulcers.





When it is not to be taken (Contraindications): 


Contraindicated in patients with absence of urination, gastric malignancy and hypersensitivity.




When it is to be taken : 
PO- The recommended dose is 150mg/day.

How it should be taken : It comes as a tablet to take by mouth, with or without food.



Special Instruction : 
* Caution should be exercised in patients with history of kidney or liver impairment, during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Side Effects : 
Skin- Rash.
Gastrointestinal- Constipation, diarrhea, nausea and gastrointestinal disturbances.
Central Nervous System- Weakness, headache, dizziness, restlessness and drowsiness.
Heart- Fast heart rate and chest pain.
Liver- Increased liver enzyme activity.
Miscellaneous- Visual disturbances, impotence and increased level of lipid in blood.

Other Precautions : 
*Avoid excess dosage.

Storage Conditions : 
Store it at room temperature and in an airtight container. Keep away from children.
