International- Gerimal, Hydergine, Niloric.


Other Name : Codergocrine mesilate

Why it is prescribed (Indications) : 
This medication is an ergot alkaloid, prescribed for symptoms of declined mental capacity (dementia) and age-related cognitive impairment (such as in Alzheimer disease), in certain patients older than 60 years of age.




When it is not to be taken (Contraindications): 


Contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity, acute or chronic psychosis.

When it is to be taken : 
Adults: 1 to 2 milligrams (mg) three times a day.


How it should be taken : 
It comes as a tablet and as liquid to take by mouth, three times a day with food.




Special Instruction : 
*Caution should be exercised in patients with history of mental illness, heart disease, during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Side Effects : 
Heart-Sudden fall in blood pressure in standing position, slow heart rate.

Skin-
Rash, flushing of the skin.

Gastrointestinal-
Abdominal cramps, nausea, vomiting, GI disturbances, irritation under the tongue.

Eye and ENT-

Blurred vision, nasal congestion.


Other Precautions : 
Do not stop taking this medication without first checking with your doctor.


Storage Conditions : 
Oral: Store below 25°C. Store it at room temperature and in airtight container. Keep away from children.
