Why it is prescribed (Indications) : This medication is a HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor, prescribed for high cholesterol.
When it is not to be taken (Contraindications):
Category X : Studies in animals or humans have demonstrated fetal abnormalities and/or there is positive evidence of human fetal risk based on adverse reaction data from investigational or marketing experience, and the risks involved in use of the drug in pregnant women clearly outweigh potential benefits.
When it is to be taken : PO- The recommended dose range is 10-80 mg daily at bedtime.
How it should be taken : It comes as a tablet to take by mouth, with food.
Special Instruction :
* Caution should be exercised in patients with history of liver disease, alcoholism, who had an organ transplant or surgery, any allergy, who are taking other medications, elderly and children.
* It may cause dizziness or blurred vision, do not drive a car or operate machinery while taking this medication.
* Avoid alcohol consumption.
* Monitor blood cholesterol level, liver function tests and creatine phosphokinase (CPK) blood levels regularly while taking this medication.

Abdominal pain, constipation, diarrhea, indigestion, flatulence and nausea.
Musculoskeletal -
Muscle cramps and muscle pain.
